A large platform used by over 2.5 billion people worldwide, YouTube has become one of the go-to places for learning. And data analytics is no exception!

When you’re just starting out with learning data analytics and don’t know where to start, you might be quite overwhelmed with which YouTube channels you should be watching.

As a self-learner myself, I can identify with this. That’s why I’ve compiled a list of the top 10 data analytics YouTube channels for you to learn and become a better data analyst!

Top 10 Must-Watch Data Analytics YouTube Channels

I’m sure most would agree that in every data analyst’s toolbox, statistics is one of the largest tools one will be using. With a strong foundation of statistics, many analytics problems can be broken down and solved. So here’s a few YouTube channels on statistics to get us started!

1. StatQuest

About:

Here’s a staple when it comes to statistics, StatQuest is a YouTube channel not to be missed. This channel is produced by Josh Starmer for simple explainer videos on statistics. Being a channel that has been uploading great content for years, the StatQuest YouTube channel is sure to be a staple in your subscription box.

What’s most iconic about StatQuest are the songs he sings in his video introductions! Here’s a video example for your entertainment.

Why I Watch:

This channel is just SO much fun – statistics concepts are clearly and comprehensively explained through visual examples and explanations! Most videos here break down essential concepts in statistics that so many people would struggle to explain.

Being an old channel of more than 9 years, Justin from Zedstatistics is an experienced statistics YouTuber that provides great content that’s perfect for beginners.

The concepts explained in this channel cover a wide range of statistics topics with examples that make it easy for even a beginner to understand! I know that learning statistics can get really dry, fast. That’s not the case for Zedstatistics, as there are clear visual presentations of examples to help you understand things faster!

3. Microsoft Power BI

The Microsoft Power BI software is no stranger to most data analysts. You’d typically hear from them that Power BI is a great data visualization tool that is commonly used in BI. The Microsoft Power BI channel was created by the Power BI software providers themselves. A great resource for instructional tutorials and webinar recordings for the Power BI software, this channel is an excellent source for reliable learning content when picking up the software.

I watch the videos on this channel because it’s by Microsoft themselves.

Although the content might not have much of the personal touch of a mentor or an instructor, the Microsoft Power BI channel is one channel that you should not miss out on.

That’s because of the regular videos posted on new updates with explanations as well as the webinars conducted on hot topics within the data analytics field. Moreover, there are countless numbers of binge-worthy tutorial series videos that you can watch while learning about the software.

4. Tableau Tim

Tableau Tim is a channel focused on Tableau. The channel features tutorials, videos on new Tableau software updates. With content from Tableau Desktop to Tableau Server, Tableau Tim covers a comprehensive amount of information about the various software products that accompany with Tableau. His content is typically presented in the form of step-by-step on-screen tutorials.

Why I Watch:

Often times, we as data analytics enthusiasts hit roadblocks when learning new softwares or skills. In my experience, there were many problems that arose when I started playing with Tableau to fit into a business need. Tableau Tim can provide that exact resource for such a problem as he covers all Tableau-related products, even including Tableau Prep Builder!

Having someone with such deep expertise in a specific analytics software is hard to come by and having someone who can explain that well enough is much rarer. Although a rather small channel in comparison to the large ones out there, Tableau Tim fulfils both these needs and can be an excellent resource to any data analytics enthusiast learning Tableau.

5. Penguin Analytics

Penguin Analytics is a channel that is focused on instructional tutorials of Tableau. As Tableau is a common tool used by a large proportion of data analyst, this channel can be a wonderful learning resource for a Tableau analyst. The videos are typically made to be in short-form, where the videos tend not to last any longer than 10 minutes.

One key video series of this channel is the “Tableau in Two Minutes” series. It includes a playlist of how-to tutorials on how to do a certain function in Tableau. As these videos provide common, specific instructions, it would be perfect for beginners starting out with data analytics.

It’s great to have a channel that provides content on a specific software, so that there’s higher chances of finding your solution from there. I watch Penguin Analytics videos because they simply so easy to digest! The Tableau in Two Minutes series was a great starter series for me to better grasp the basics of Tableau.

Empowered Analysts is the first channel in the list to be from a personal data analyst YouTuber. This small but ambitious channel is an underrated one, which has big goals of unlocking the potential as a data analyst. Content on this channel consists of both instructional video and data analyst career tips. The instructional videos are based on mostly Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Power BI. These are common tools for a data analyst as well, which can be great for those looking to pick up these skills.

Why I Watch:

This channel is so underrated and provides so much value to those looking to pick up skills to be data analysts. By offering both career tips and introduction videos to common tools, the Empowered Analysts channel is a must-watch channel for those looking to make a switch to the data analyst role.

I find the instructional videos to be educational and clear because of the on-screen recordings of the exact steps to take on the computer.

7. Caleb Curry

About:

Caleb Curry is an old favorite among those who watch his videos for a whole collection of programming languages. Within the field of data analytics, Caleb Curry covers introductory courses on several languages that are commonly used by data analysts – Python and SQL.

In addition to all these languages, this channel also covers data structure concepts as well. Here’s a video from the channel about Stacks you might like.

Why I Watch:

This channel approaches programming and data concepts in such a friendly and light-hearted way, all while help you learn a whole LOT of content well. The most outstanding features of most videos is the use of both a blackboard (talk about old school) as well as on-screen instructions. I think this teaching style is really similar to how your high school teacher would teach and brings back a tinge of nostalgia to me (in a good way). So if you’re looking a down-to-earth and great high-school style online videos, you’ll love Caleb Curry.

8. Guy in a Cube

About:

Guy in a Cube is a channel all about the little things in Power BI. This channel is run by a power-packed duo – Adam and Patrick. This channel publishes information updates every Monday and has technical Power BI videos on every Tuesday and Wednesday.

Why I Watch:

Adam and Patrick are just so entertaining and engaging in their videos and they never fail to keep me watching and learning each time (especially with their icon YOOO in their introductions). The Guy in a Cube is a one-of-a-kind YouTube channel that is well-polished and has high-quality content. Their weekly technical videos make sure that you learn something new about the Microsoft BI stack each week.

With their focus on Power BI, any data analyst that has to work on some BI work would benefit from the weekly technical videos. Moreover, this content can be easily understood through their simple, short videos so beginners are welcome too.

His channel mainly provides content on helping others start their journeys to become a data analyst or to make a career switch to one. Some common videos found on his channel are SQL introduction tutorials as well as career tips when applying to be a data analyst. Videos are posted on a weekly basis.

Why I Watch:

This channel has been one of those on this list that I follow pretty closely. Here’s why.

Firstly, Alex was himself was from a non-technical background and worked his way into becoming a data analyst in a Fortune 500 company. Secondly, his videos give insight into how a data analyst thinks and what are the essential skills needed. Thirdly, he has tutorials on how to improve these exact skills. Doesn’t this sound like a perfect channel for a beginner? It sure does to me! Do consider giving this channel a try, there’s much to be learned and gained from Alex!

Bonus! Alex actually reads every single comment on his YouTube channel. Now that’s dedication.

Anthony B. Smoak is a channel for data visualization and focuses on creating beautiful charts in Power BI, Tableau and even Python. The dashboards are typically taught through long-form tutorials that guide you step-by-step to ensure that you can completely replicate his visualizations.

His dashboards are just so beautifully made and can be addicting to look at. Each dashboard is taught through a long tutorial that can really walk any beginner through each step until completion. Anthony’s expertise in BI is one not to be missed out on, especially for budding data analysts like myself. If you’re looking to start a guided project of a dashboard, this channel is a great place to start.

These are the data analytics YouTube channels that made my top 10 list and I hope that I’ve justified why I chose these over the many others out there.
