What Is The Best Data Analytics Podcast?

1. Digital Analytics Power Hour
Podcast Host:
Michael Helbling, Moe Kiss, and Tim Wilson
What It’s About:
I would say that the Digital Analytics Power Hour is a really down-to-earth podcast show. Run by professionals within the analytics field, hosts Michael, Moe and Tim have open conversations about topics ranging from analytics to MarTech to statistics. Basically, if there’s anything related to data analytics, this show is likely to cover some aspects of it. Episodes typically run for about an hour.
Why I Love It:
Knowing how this podcast show is run by 3 hosts, most would think that it might be hard to find 3 people with great synergy. However, the Digital Analytics Power Hour podcast is an exception to that. You’d be surprised with how these hosts synergize in their discussions in a casual, relaxed way.
This podcast is great for those who want a very frank opinion on matters in data. The hosts are in fact pretty frank that there’s even an occasional slip of expletives that usually mean no harm. If you’re looking an approachable, down-to-earth podcast, the Digital Analytics Power Hour podcast is for you.
However, if you’re somewhat sensitive to their approach on use of expletives or if you’re looking for a podcast that’s safe for work, then you can skip this podcast show.
An Episode I Love:
Here’s Podcast episode #149: Making Statistics Accessible with Chelsea Parlett-Pelleriti. In this podcast, the hosts invited Chelsea Parlett-Pelleriti who popularized the #statstiktok hashtag on TikTok. She is also known as the Chatistician by some. In this episode, Chelsea shares more about how TikTok can be used to make statistics more accessible to others and to reach those who are new to statistics. 2. DataFramed

What It’s About:
The DataFramed podcast is highly focused on thought leadership discussions across a lot of topics in data and AI. This weekly show regularly features popular thought leaders in the data industry, who share unique insight with those who are willing to learn more about the latest trends, tools, and movements in the field.
It’s also run by DataCamp, a popular data science and AI learning platform I’ve personally learned from.
Why I Love It:
Their podcast is always about interesting takes on the latest trends in data. For example, their podcast made a recent shift in attention to AI and how it relates to data. This is great for anyone who’s already in the data industry and would like to stay ahead in learning the new trends.
However, the topics can be quite heavy, technical, and dry for beginners who are still new to this world of data analytics. In that case, I’d recommend reading up more on their blog instead.
An Episode I Love:
For this podcast, I’ll share two episodes I love: one on the topic of AI and another on data analytics.
For AI, I enjoyed the episode where Bob Muglia, former CEO of Snowflake, shared his expertise on how he helped materialize the modern data stack and his thoughts on how AI is changing data workflows.
For data, I particularly liked an episode on “How Organizations Can Bridge the Data Literacy Gap“. It featured Dr. Selena Fisk as a guest speaker, who shared about the importance of data literacy and using visualizations well.

3. The Present Beyond Measure® Show

What It’s About:
With a focus on data analytics and digital marketing, the Present Beyond Measure show is great for data analytics enthusiasts and data professionals to discover more about data.
This podcast has topics ranging mostly from data visualization to data storytelling. Each hour-long episode typically comes in several formats hosted by host Lea Pica – discussions on specific data visualizations or chats with invited speakers within the data analytics field.
Why I Love It:
Lea’s podcasts are such a great refreshing take on data storytelling and presentation, which I believe needs to much more love. I’m sure you’d agree that there’s been more focus on statistics and programming within the data analytics field and not much discussion has been going on around good data presentations. The Present Beyond Measure show is perfect for listeners who want to perfect their craft in presentations, to set them apart from those who only crunch data without presenting them well. She’s also a really engaging host!
An Episode I Love:
Here’s a podcast that I listened to, where Lead interviewed Cole Nussbaumer Knaflic, a leader in the areas of data communication and effective data storytelling. She recently published a data visualization book, an Amazon category best-seller, Storytelling with Data. This episode, Cole shares tips on data visualization and how to have effective communication of data. Do give it a listen below!

4. DataSkeptic

Kyle Polich and Linh Da Tran
What It’s About:
This data science podcast mainly has guest interviews for discussions on the areas of data science, statistics and machine learning. If you’re looking to listen to challenging yet informative discussion, this podcast is just for you! This podcast series looks at key topics in data science critically and evaluates the different claims in these areas.
The episodes typically last for 30 minutes each and they are published on a weekly basis.
Why I Love It:
The Data Skeptic Podcast is just plain casual and funny, yet can be really informative while helping you understand common topics in data science and statistics.
Although this podcast focuses less on data analytics and more on data science, I found the discussions on statistics helped me think more critically when approaching statistical problems in analytics.
An Episode I Love:
This episode below is a highly intelligent discussion on the p-value and it’s usefulness in decision making. In this podcast, Yudi Pawitan to discusses his paper Defending the P-value and how the p-value can still be considered valid. The p-value is a commonly attacked statistical test that is commonly used in applied statistics and analytics.
The reason why I love this episode is how Yudi presented his argument on how the p-value is still useful in his work in bioinformatics. Being a data analyst with some knowledge of bioinformatics, I felt that some of his statements were rather insightful. Highly recommended for data scientists too!

5. Data Crunch

The Data Crunch Podcast is a show where data is the main focus. Naturally, data science podcasts like these would include analytics, machine learning and artificial intelligence topics.
Hosts Ginette and Curtis are the main hosts of the show, where they interview important players in data science and analytics. Each episode lasts for approximately 30 minutes for every 2 weeks.
Why I Love It:
This podcast just simply provides you with the content. No extra features no frills. Just good and intellectual content that would expand your horizon on how data is handled across industries through data strategy.
If you’re a geek who loves hearing more about how data is being used by the different firms around, this podcast is perfect for you! I like to treat this podcast as a source for data science news too.
An Episode I Love:
Here’s an episode that I loved! This episode, titled “Data Flexibility in Healthcare”, is an in-depth interview with Jason Kolaczkowski, who has worked in a large data science firm as well as a data consultancy.
During the podcast, Jason shared his perspectives of Healthcare analytics at NextHealth. I really loved this insightful podcast for Jason’s refreshing insights about data within the healthcare analytics field, which is a rapidly growing one.
Coming from a biological background in college, healthcare has always been another interest to me, besides data and this episode truly expanded my knowledge in this area.

The DataPoint podcast is a show that focuses on data analytics in the healthcare innovation field. Hosted by Greg, this podcast discusses a range of topics and data stories from machine learning to artificial intelligence being applied specifically to all areas of healthcare. Episodes tend to last for about 30 minutes each.
Why I Love It:
As healthcare analytics has shown to be on the rise, there are few resources available for learning how data and analytics can be applied within the various areas of healthcare. I have a personal great interest in the applications of data in healthcare and this podcast is just the perfect thing for me to get started with.
I’ve tried listening to these during my free time and I would say that they are worth giving a listen if you’re passionate about healthcare analytics! If your interests lie somewhere else, then I would say you should give this a skip.
An Episode I Love:
For those healthcare analytics lovers like me, here’s a podcast I listened to recently, where Greg (the host), interviews Elizabeth Kirk, Senior Vice President of Strategic Services at Strata Decision Technology to learn more about hospitals can be more cost-efficient through use of analytics. I’d recommend you give it a listen beloe!

7. Making Data Simple

Al Martin (VP, Data and AI Expert Services and Learning at IBM)
What It’s About:
Making Data Simple is simply just all about data. It features the latest conversations and topics in data science, with some on the advancements in AI. As the host, Al, is VP of IBM, you should already have guessed that this podcast is addresses the implications for IBM from wide panel of guest experts.
Why I Love It:
If a VP of a large firm hosts a data podcast, you are sure to know that you’re learning the right stuff. This podcast is just great for those who love discussions across a really wide range of topics! I’ve even linked an episode I loved below about using data in understanding the science of fires.
An Episode I Love:
In this episode, of Making Data Simple an invited guest, Amy McDermott was interview by Al to learn more about the application of data to fires. Just how cool is that! Amy is a science journalist at Front Matter and she understands how data analysis is use in models for predicting and understanding fires. Skip to 17:35 for a real world example of how models are used!

8. SQL Data Partners

What It’s About:
This podcast is vastly different from the others mentioned, here’s one for the true data analysts out there! If you’re dabbling with SQL for data management work or for your current project, this podcast is for you! Carlos and his guests mostly discuss matters related to SQL server and share ideas on SQL.
In addition, the podcast also features some topics on Power BI, which are surprisingly insightful! Each episode lasts for about 30 minutes to an hour and new episodes are released every 2 weeks or so.
Why I Love It:
The first thing that came to my mind when hearing this podcast was just one thing – friendly. The SQL Data Partners podcast is such a welcoming one, where learning, sharing and making friends is one of the main focuses of the show. This podcast is the perfect if you love laid-back conversations on your favorite SQL topics.
I’d recommend this for anyone with a data science job that uses SQL, regardless if you’re a data scientist, data analyst or a data engineer.
An Episode I Love:
Here’s an episode I listened recently, which is not really on SQL but on Power BI. Carlos casually discusses about data modelling within the Microsoft Power BI software. Power BI is a common tool used by many data analysts for business intelligence, I recommend giving it a listen!

9. The Tableau Wannabe Podcast

Emily Kund and Matt Francis
What It’s About:
Here’s one for the Tableau fans! The Tableau Wannabe Podcast is a podcast focused on all things Tableau. The hosts, Emily and Matt are a fun bunch who are passionate about the different aspects of Tableau from visualizations to relationship noodles. Each episode lasts for about 30 minutes.
Why I Love It:
The casual banter and conversations between Emily and Matt make this podcast really relatable. With relaxed conversations on the most-loved BI software by data analysts, this podcast is great for anyone who needs some entertainment on their drives back home from the office.
An Episode I Love:
Here’s a simple episode I cam across, on relationship noodles within Tableau. In case you’re wondering, they’re not your usual noodles. Emily and Matt discuss in this episode on how the introduction of relationship noodles can take over the use of traditional joins. Rather interesting episode I would say. Do check it out below!

Now that’s all the top 8 podcasts that made my personal list out of the dozens I’ve tried listening to. I’m pretty confident that these podcast shows would provide much value to any data enthusiast who wants to learn and be entertained without feeling the dread of learning from books.
Sure, some might not be of the most professional, but each has its own plus points so do pick out one or two for yourself!
